Video Poker History

Video Poker first began in the mid 1970’s around the same time that a genius decided to combine a television like screen and a computer processor to produce the first personal computers ever released into the consumer market. Since it was a computerized game, it would be very easy to incorporate it into online casinos years later. Although the idea stood, the first true video poker game that anyone can remember is Draw Poker invented by the gaming company (IGT).

For whatever reasons one can come up with, Draw Poker became a huge success and its popularity grew well into the 1980’s. Video Poker has since become something renowned world wide. Most people admit that the machines attract there attention because they are economical games that aren’t just based on pure luck like the slot machines and they are also very easy to play.

Because sitting at a table with a group of people and wagering against more experienced poker players can be quite intimidating, Video Poker is a good alternative for the shy and the beginners. Since there are no opponents in the game there is only one goal and that is to achieve the highest possible hand and hope for a nice pay off. This makes the game a real winner in a lot of people’s books.

Now there are many different variations of this exciting game including some with wild cards, some with progressive jackpots, some with modified pay off scheduling, etc. Its variety continues to grow its popularity.
